Repetition Photographers will often produce images based on their observations of repeated shapes in nature or the built environment. Careful consideration of viewpoint and composition can produce strong abstract patterns. Objects and images can be arranged to form a repeat pattern. Maurizio Galimberti often uses a grid structure to arrange images of the same subject. Peter de Lory has produced more than one series of photos using repeated shapes found in the landscape. Étienne-Jules Marey used repetition to record movement.
I have chosen to use pinterest because I was able to gather ideas and images for my choosen theme. This has worked well because I was able to keep an idea in mind of how this could later on.
ARTIST:1 Maurizio Galimberti
With Maurizio's work they are a perfect example of repetition, however he started of using a classic analogic film and mainly working with black and white and in diapo and cibachrome by uding a widelux camera. Around the 1980's he was passionate about photography and using Polaroid camera. The reason he uses a simple camera is because he has no patience on waiting on for the process before viewing the result, which also he is afraid of using the darkroom. These images are a abstract way of showing repetition I like the way he replecates the images with out having to take body shots but he does a lot with just the face or even hair which I noticed plays a big part of an roll in his pictures also in one of the pictures. |
ARTIST:2Research Peter de Lory
Peter De Lory work is also another example of repetition, what I like most about his work here is that its in black and white, which I think brings out the texture of the object and it will make you focus on the whole image than just one particular bit of the image. If there was a word to describe these images it will be abstraction this is because you do not usually see natural forms in black and white. The things I see in the images are all nature and trees which they have been photographed in a different way and this may be because they wanted to hide the beauty of the landscape. The equipment he might have used may of been a digital camera and using a macro lens so that he could get every single little detail within an image.

ARTIST:3Étienne-Jules Marey
Ethienne has a very correct style of how he presents his work, his methods reminded me of the light proces where the camera will capture a certain amount of images that will all appear as one picture as if they have all been overlapped or multiplyed in some sort of way.
Another thing I like about his work is that these images are in black and white I suppose that in those days there camera was not up to date and could only capture images like that but I feel like it just shows how photography has come a long way and has many links to it which im happy to they that it links to repetition.

Repetion SET 1
With these images I wanted to really show the full effect of how we are surrounded by repetition and how it is all around us without us realising. These images was taken on my iPhone5s for I do not own a digital camera however I still felt like it would have the same affect.

With this image I feel that what went well was that the colour green that stands out straight and how the legs of the chairs stand out as well by the angle they are in reflection of the green and sunlight comes from the back of the camera which I think this makes it better but I try hard not to get in the way of the sunlight I found this as strugell so I then dicided to wait when the sunlight was very bright thats when I took this photo but also the natral light from the inside was worked very well , and just simple gave the image a better look.
With these images I got my ideas from my research with the artist Romenzieo I simply done this by using just a simple iPhone 5s camera by tacking photos of the parts of the models faces, I was hoping to show some sort of relation towards Romenzieo work and mine however I do feel like I can make this image better and expand on it hopefully I could use to my advantage photoshop, and try to really be creative, so to use the idea of the artist and to expand or ilabirate on it.
This piece of my work I went out my own way to try and work on how I can present my theme repetition again I used my own phone to incapture these photos,I took them as an individual picture for I thought these pictures shows repetition in full effect but I started thinking about how I cloud later on improve my work, after looking for something to improve these images I then thought that I couldn't find anything to help me change them but then I stumbled into a app called layout which was originally used for another app called Instagram the app allowed me have different images in multiple shapes and positions.
Etienne research set 1
EthienneWith these images I was trying to recreate Etienne photos I chose to expanded on his idea for it was unique and came together with my peice but mainly because it was very abstract and with a abstract image with my theme repetition I thought that would really go along well together.
There was a lot of things that had to be done or even sacrificed to make sure I could get there's images for example the equipment I was using didn't belong to us and belonged to a different department in school which was science so I Simple had to ask if we could use the equipment.
Not only that but to make sure it was in good condition when they got it back so there was a lot of responsibility when I finally stated tacking these photos I had to think about how long the shutter speed had to be open for so the photo could be clear not only that but how much the light was flickering so we could get the correct motion and movement with it.
Whiles getting these things in check I then asked my model to do some crazy movement if I should say just to test out if everything was were it had to be and if I was honest the actions in the photo was fantastic but unfortunately the camera was not in focus however this was not a set back at all for but it was just a lesson I learnt, and was something I remembered to always do before setting up the other equipment.
After doing so I noticed my photos were much clear and actually was pleasing to the eye and had this attraction to them, you could also say that the viewer would be interested.
howver I then thought about the colours for both me and the model was wearing blue so I decided to wear a black top in the next lesson I had in doing so I feel like it rather made the images different or in contrast even.
If there was anything I learnt from Ethienne ideas and his work was to look at the focus of your camera before tacking the shot and simple what you can do not only with the camera but with your body how you can crate a way of knowing what the image could potentionaly look like by having an abstract body posture you could say.

I think what went well in this photo was the multiple images of me it was so go I it even looks like it was done in Photoshop.
Also what went well against the black back ground was the completion of my skin the light hiring it made it a smooth light brown colour.
Not only that but the hand geugers and my body movement was was very abstract as well.
I could of done better with this image by maybe expanding my techniques with the image for example photoshop to I could eather change the filter or to even change the back ground or the top I was wearing.

Repetition set 2
Repettion set 3
These are one of my most proud works for I felt like it had more meaning because of where it was taken which was Barbican but how I made it.
Every single image was created by my phone as it is something I use everyday so when I saw the result of these I was more than pleased to how they turned out.

Repettion Refined and improved set 3
With all of my repetition sets they was all protected and throw out the way they all got better if I have to be honest with my self I am happy with the way this course went I was really impressed with the way I have progressed however I wanted portray this by using my resharch I was going to do this by phisicly making a peice by mounting this into sculpcture if you would like to call it but to start of my resharch, the was no other artist that could show what I had in mind other than BruancusiI pictured having a tall sculpcture looking type of my images and having the idea of them being mounted on but to keep in Mind repetition and also the abstract images I wanted to portray and keep the theme repetition applying.
In the proces of all these things I had to think about how many images I would have to print to fit in the place where it would be mounted this came up to 12 so had to print out and then trim them down right to the edge, straight after mounting I was quite pleased in fact I was amazed with what I had done so I dicided to get more confident with my self and get more mounted work so I did another 5 to make it even so had 6 this ment I had to do a lot of work meaning trimming more printing mounting, and a lot of at her things needed to do to help me.
Most of my images are taken by my own phone which means I could take as many pictures when ever and where ever, so for example whe I went to a photoshoot in Barbican there was these amazing buildings that court my eye I just had to take a couple pictures and before I new it I thought these turned up to be a grate out come so I said to my self it must go on the website.
During the whole process of these images I was using an app called layout which allows you to well to be host its in the name but however yes this app was very very useful for it allowed me to overlap turn around switch images add images ect of I should say it played a big role in my unit 2.

Repetition - Video Experiments:
With these videos I expanded my idea by going out my own way to do these things, and if I should say I was being totally origanel.
So I started this when I went out with no plans to take pictures or videos but by all means I was going to, but moving on I was near the London eye,and I liked the way the movement of the London eye reminded me in some way of repetition of how it go's round and round .
Also I had the thought of that app I've been using which was layout, so I had the thought of putting the video in layout but sadly they don't do that, but to continue I used time-lapse on my iPhone 5s I was really trying to put a loop in my video, however that was going to be much harder than I thought but no worries I didn't give up.
I then put them in ,I movie for I want to overlap the video and to make it semetrical to again liknk it back to the theme repetition ,I was very pleased with the way they turned out simply because it made me quite confident and even willing to do more.
I used my Iphone 5s with this for it was only a normal day for me and my mates going at just for fun but I also had in the back of my mind what type of images would be good for this website and how it will improve it so I took every opotunity and planed ahead to crate and improve more of my images.

Selected video stills:
With these images I wanted to fully show the effect of the video so I dicided to screenshot them and portray their strong effects and to mentain the idea of repetition and keep on Track with what I had to do.
If I have to be honest with my self it was quite hard to get the screenshot with out the image being a blur,so I then chose to simple purse the video and then screenshot this worked well for I could then keep this up and look at anything that would good as an image or to even be mounted.
furthermore I was rely pleased with how well I had come with this repetition video experiments and even through that I managed to create my on work, but If I had to change anything it would have to be to have taken many pictures with just a hold of a button with my Iphone5s I could of done the same thing but only through putting the video on overlap on imovie and it will just keep on repeating.

Installation photos
This was one my best image out of all the ones in my Installations gallery I was really pleased with how this image turned out in terms of the colours and lighting it looks as if the there is some sort filter on the picture I fill like it gives the image a warm effect to it also I had thoughts to crop the image afterwords but I later on felt like just by having the original image made it better for there was no changes to add it I also tried to make sure that there was no people in the back ground or people in the image in general I really felt like just by having someone in could stop this image from having its effect , however I noticed with the first image at the font standing up on the left that just above it looks like someone is standing there but then I realised it was an poster but it was crazy to think how the person in the poster was wearing blue and my peace in line with it was slightly blue as well this was quite exciting to know I could take an image knowing what I want to do and may capture something even better than I imagined once noticing this I started looking to see if I would find anything similar to my grateful mistake I then started looking at the border and lines then again I spotted the last peace on the right in line with the blue fence I was quite shocked to how these accidents could take place and just make my image better and if anything have a purpose, but the image as a whole I like the way the I structured the images in the same way as the theam which was repetition I thought this would always give it a way to be linked back,I also like the way the benches.
FINAL EVALUATION
When starting this unit 2 if I am honest I would say I was quite happy and confident picking the theme "Repetition" I felt like this was my chance to show what I could really do and what I have learnt during the years also for my images to be looked at and to be inspiration for the ones viewing them, simply after doing so I thought I should make a mind map to give me some sort of idea of what I would need to enable me to do repetition, also what repetition meant as a word within its self so this will include -patterns, abstract images, more than one images, by putting this up, and it being shown it would show that I understood what I had to do or that i had a clear and fixed mind set before starting, again felt very pleased that I chose this and was looking forward to artist that will inspire me to create this images and for them to stand out, and like before I said I was confident this was because I already had some artist that I even inspired me so I had in mind that I could use them as a source to a good start to this unit.
I then continue my research by looking at an artist called ETIENNE, I was really quite inspired by his work which had a very diverse sense to it, for it was repeated. It is a type of abstract image but while doing this I noticed more things about ETIENNE, such as the use of his equipment, at first I thought this was almost impossible but lucky for me, my school already had the equipment for me to capture these images.
